Resident Evil 2026 review with real eBay comps

I walked out of the new Resident Evil last night and couldn’t stop thinking about it. This is my Resident Evil 2026 review, and the short version is that it feels less like watching a game movie and more like picking up the controller.

Most video game adaptations feel like somebody skimmed the wiki page. This one feels like somebody actually played the thing. I’ll get into why in a second.

You also get the part you won’t find in other reviews: what the classic games actually sell for on eBay right now. Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7. Sold listings only. Comps over vibes.

The first half is spoiler free. I’ll tell you when that changes.

What the new Resident Evil is about, no spoilers

Zach Cregger directed it, Sony released it in theaters on September 18, and it runs about 95 minutes. Austin Abrams plays Bryan, a medical courier. He’s a brand new character, not somebody you know from the games.

Bryan is on a delivery run to a hospital in the middle of winter. Snow everywhere. Then, out on the road, he hits a woman with his car. A cop shows up. And from there the night just keeps getting worse.

That’s all I’m giving you. The less you know going in, the better it works.

Why it feels like you’re playing the game

Here’s what got me. The movie plays out like a run through the game. You move from one location to the next, you never really have what you need, and you’re never sure what’s waiting around the next corner.

It’s also properly scary. Tense the whole way through, with a handful of jump scares that actually land instead of just being loud noises.

That makes sense once you hear where Cregger is coming from. In a PlayStation Blog Q&A, he said Resident Evil 4 is the game he’s played the most, and he even worked a nod to its healing items into the film. He also called Resident Evil 2 his first survival horror game, which is where his love of tracking every bullet came from.

You can feel that. Somebody who loves these games made this.

Where it left me wanting more

My one real complaint is that it’s too short. At about 95 minutes, every time it landed somewhere interesting I wanted to stay longer.

That’s an annoying complaint to have, because it means I liked it. But a movie this good at building tension deserved more room to breathe.

Spoilers from here: the farmhouse, Raccoon City and the ending

Haven’t seen it yet? Skip down to the collector section. Everything below gives the movie away, and I’ll warn you one more time before the ending.

Bryan ends up at a farmhouse and grabs a shotgun. Then he finds out it has no ammo. If you’ve ever played a Resident Evil game, you know that sinking feeling, and it’s the exact moment I realized the movie was speaking my language.

There’s a monster, and it doesn’t quit. It keeps following Bryan from place to place, like something you can’t shake in the game.

Then comes my favorite stretch. A tunnel, an RV and a little girl, with a bite and a cure in the mix. It plays out so much like a level in the game that I grinned in my seat.

Raccoon City: the alley, the SMG and the tentacles

When they finally roll into Raccoon City, it’s worse than anyone imagined. Everything is on fire.

The woman driving stops the car after infected people attack some survivors. She hops out, shoots every one of them, and walks down a dark alley. She never comes back. She’s also got the keys, which means Bryan has to go get them.

Before he does, he grabs a submachine gun from the back of the car. That’s the game again. He started the movie with a shotgun that had no ammo, and now he’s upgraded to an SMG, like moving up a weapon tier.

He finds her, but it’s only her bottom half. Something ate her or cut her in two. Bryan goes for the keys, changes his mind, and tentacles drag what’s left of her into the dark.

When he gets back to the car, the same tentacles are pulling the scientist out of it. Bryan opens fire. He hits the tentacles, but he hits the scientist too, and then the monster takes him. Bryan runs.

This is where we learn what killed both of them. It’s the monster from the farmhouse, and now it’s hunting Bryan.

The sewers and the rooftop jumpers

Cornered, Bryan finds a manhole and drops into the sewers. A huge, fat infected person is just sitting there. While he stares at it, its stomach explodes, and infected rats pour out and chase him. He shoots them all with the SMG and climbs the ladder out.

Right when things finally calm down, he’s walking toward the hospital and spots infected up on a roof. They see him and start jumping off the building to get him. He runs, dodges every one of them, and makes it through the streets. Then it cuts, almost like a cutscene, and we’re at the hospital.

The hospital run

Infected are everywhere, so he goes in through the garage. The elevators aren’t working, and someone on the intercom tells him it’s too dangerous and he needs to take the stairs. He gets up four flights before deciding screw it and taking the elevator.

The farmhouse monster attacks him in the elevator, and we meet a new infected that throws up acid. Bryan uses the acid infected to hit the monster and makes it to the top.

Now he needs to get across the sky bridge to the next building, but the only way is through the infirmary, where infected babies and infected doctors are waiting. He runs through it. He gets to the bridge, looks down, and the farmhouse monster is climbing the building. So he uses the horde from the infirmary to fall right on top of it, and that’s the last we see of that thing.

The ending (last spoiler warning)

This is your last chance to skip. I’m giving away the ending.

Bryan finally reaches the scientists and hands over the package, and they successfully make the cure. But Bryan has turned, and he attacks them. They try to stick him with the cure, and they all end up dead. Bryan is now a huge monster, the cure falls off the building, and there’s no help coming. Helicopters show up, Bryan lets out one last big roar as a fully infected monster, and that’s where it ends.

Is it worth the collector hunt? Resident Evil eBay sold prices

One rule before any numbers. I only use sold listings, never asking prices. Asking prices are people dreaming out loud.

On the movie itself, Sony hasn’t confirmed home release dates as far as I can find. Reports point to a digital release around November 3 and 4K, Blu-ray, DVD and SteelBook editions on December 15. Treat those as reported, not official, and double check the listing before you pre-order.

Until then, the games are the collectible. Since the director loves Resident Evil 4, I started there. I also grabbed Resident Evil 7, the other game he credits as an inspiration.

Resident Evil 4 and 7: the cheap ones

Resident Evil 4 on GameCube, complete in box with both discs and the manual, had a median of $49.99 across nine October sales. That’s the game the director plays on repeat, and it costs about the same as a dinner out. The GameStop Special Edition is the splurge version, with a median around $195.

Resident Evil 7 on PS4 is basically pocket change. Ten October sales of the standard edition, complete with case, landed on a median of $12.50.

ItemEdition / GradeSold priceMonth sold
Resident Evil 4 (GameCube, 2005)Complete in box, 2 discs and manual$49.99 median of 9 sales (range $42.99 to $60.00)Oct 2026
Resident Evil 4 GameStop Special Edition (GameCube)Complete in box$195 median of 8 sales (range $122.50 to $250.00)Aug to Oct 2026
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard (PS4)Standard edition, complete with case$12.50 median of 10 sales (range $8.95 to $14.70)Oct 2026
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Collector’s Edition (PS4)Brand new$109.99 (1 sale)Oct 2026

The PlayStation 1 originals are where the money is

The PS1 trilogy is a different tier. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is the priciest of the bunch at a median of $100.00 across ten sales. Resident Evil 2 in Black Label sits at $79.99. The original Resident Evil Director’s Cut in Greatest Hits is the budget entry at $51.00.

ItemEdition / GradeSold priceMonth sold
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS1)Complete in box, manual and registration card$100.00 median of 10 sales (range $87.00 to $129.99)Oct 2026
Resident Evil 2 (PS1)Black Label, complete in box$79.99 median of 7 sales (range $67.00 to $94.50)Oct 2026
Resident Evil 2: Dual Shock Edition (PS1)Complete in box$82.48 median of 4 sales (range $69.95 to $99.99)Oct 2026
Resident Evil Director’s Cut (PS1)Greatest Hits, complete in box$51.00 median of 10 sales (range $44.99 to $69.99)Sep to Oct 2026
Resident Evil Director’s Cut (PS1)Not Greatest Hits, complete in box$119.99, $135.00 and $165.00 (3 sales, too few for a median)Sep to Oct 2026

Two honest caveats. First, this is a snapshot. I don’t have before and after numbers, so I can’t tell you the movie pushed any of these up. Second, the small samples (the Collector’s Edition and the early Director’s Cut copies) are a few sales each, so don’t treat them as gospel.

My read: grab Resident Evil 4 or 7 if you just want to play what inspired the movie. If you’re collecting, the PS1 copies are the ones that hold real value, and Nemesis is the one to watch. How I get these eBay numbers

Sold listings only, never asking prices. I match the edition and condition, look at the last 5 to 10 sales, and drop the outliers. That means tossing best offers where the final price stays hidden, sales loaded with international shipping and import fees, refurbished listings, disc only copies, bundles and lots. I use the median so one wild sale can’t skew the picture. Everything above comes from eBay sold listings checked in September and October 2026, and I’ll update the post when new sales change the picture. Last updated October 23, 2026.

Quick answers about the new Resident Evil

Zach Cregger directed it, and Austin Abrams stars as Bryan, a medical courier. Cregger has said Resident Evil 4 is the game he’s played the most.

How long is the new Resident Evil movie?

About 95 minutes. I thought it was too short, since I wanted more time in each location.

When does the new Resident Evil come out on Blu-ray and 4K?

Sony hasn’t confirmed dates that I could find. Reports point to a digital release around November 3 and 4K, Blu-ray, DVD and SteelBook editions on December 15, 2026, but treat those as unconfirmed.

Nine October 2026 eBay sold listings of the complete in box game had a median of $49.99, from $42.99 up to $60.00. The GameStop Special Edition in the tin, complete in box, had a median of about $195 across eight sales since August, from $122.50 up to $250.00.

How much is Resident Evil 7 on PS4 worth?

My Resident Evil 2026 review score: 8.5 out of 10

It’s tense, it’s scary, and it feels like the game. If you’re into scary movies, you’re going to love it. The only thing holding it back is the runtime.

On the collecting side, Resident Evil 4 is the easy pickup, Resident Evil 7 is pocket change, and the PS1 copies are the real shelf pieces.
